Hondana vs MyAnimeList
MyAnimeList answers “have I read this manga?” Hondana answers “which book is on the shelf?” A MAL entry is one series with a reading status. A Hondana entry is one volume range of one edition, with possession and reading stored separately.
MAL is a reading log with a large community catalog. Its list status (reading, completed, on hold, dropped, plan to read) describes you, and the score describes the work. It does not have a field for “VIZBIG volumes 1–3, second printing, owned, unread.” Two people who have both finished Vagabond look the same on MAL whether one owns 37 singles and the other owns 12 omnibuses.
Hondana can start from that list. The MyAnimeList import brings the series you marked and your status, and then you confirm editions. It does not pretend the import already knows which printing you bought. Barcode adds after that are exact, because they resolve an ISBN to a catalog row.
The catalogs also serve different jobs. MAL's value is discovering titles and comparing scores. Hondana's public catalog pages exist so a collector can see which English editions are on file before they scan. Notes and purchase dates never appear on a public Hondana shelf.

Which to use
Choose Hondana when the object matters: which edition, which volumes you physically have, and which of those you have not read.
Choose MyAnimeList when you want a reading log, scores, and a community catalog of the work rather than the book.
